WordPress Integration: Complete Setup Guide

Prerequisites

Before you begin, make sure you have:

  • WordPress 5.6 or later installed
  • Administrator access to your WordPress site
  • An active BlogFlux account

Step 1: Generate WordPress Application Password

WordPress Application Passwords were introduced in WordPress 5.6 and provide a secure way for third-party applications to connect to your site.

  1. Log into your WordPress admin dashboard
  2. Navigate to Users → Profile
  3. Scroll down to the Application Passwords section
  4. Enter a name for the application (e.g., "BlogFlux")
  5. Click Add New Application Password
  6. Important: Copy the generated password immediately - it will only be shown once!

Step 2: Find Your WordPress Site URL

You'll need your WordPress site URL (without /wp-json - BlogFlux adds this automatically):

https://yourdomain.com

To verify your REST API is working, visit https://yourdomain.com/wp-json in your browser. You should see a JSON response, not a 404 error.

Step 3: Add Blog Connection in BlogFlux

  1. Log into your BlogFlux account
  2. Navigate to Blog Connections in the sidebar
  3. Click New Blog Connection
  4. Select WordPress as the connection type (selected by default)
  5. Fill in the form:
    • Connection Name: A friendly name for this connection (e.g., "My Blog")
    • Blog URL: Your WordPress site URL (e.g., https://yourblog.com) - don't include /wp-json
    • WordPress Username: Your WordPress admin username
    • Application Password: The password you generated in Step 1
  6. Click Test Connection to verify the connection works
  7. If the test is successful, click Create Connection

Step 4: Generate and Publish Your First Post

Now you're ready to generate and automatically publish content to WordPress!

  1. Navigate to Content Generation in the sidebar
  2. Enter your blog post topic
  3. Add keywords (optional, comma-separated)
  4. Select your AI model (GPT-5 Mini recommended for most posts)
  5. Select the WordPress connection you just created under "Blog Connection"
  6. Click Generate Content
  7. Once generated, review and click Publish to send to WordPress

Common Issues

401 Unauthorized Error

This means your Application Password is incorrect or has expired. Generate a new Application Password and try again.

404 Not Found Error

Your WordPress site URL is incorrect or the REST API is disabled. Make sure you're using your base site URL (e.g., https://yourdomain.com) without /wp-json - BlogFlux adds this automatically.

Application Passwords Section Missing

You need WordPress 5.6 or later. Update your WordPress installation or ask your hosting provider for help.
